What is the Discoveries Series?

"Now in its seventh year Discoveries owes a great deal to Hugh’s Room which continues to partner with us as we showcase yet another very eclectic group of artists, most of whom are just beginning their creative journeys. The concept is a simple one, (none of these artists is yet able to fill the room on their own, although we have confidence that each one will get to that point) bring four talents together, give each 30 minutes on stage and have each one bring out their fans, family and friends. Suddenly you have a full room and everyone present cheers on their artist and in the process discovers new talent to support in the future."

MARBLE, a multidisciplinary showcase performance of works developed by the 11 participants of the Young Centre’s Emerging Artists Program; directed by Weyni Mengesha in collaboration with Roberto Campanella. The show was part of the Collisions Dance Festival, held at the Young Center December 10-12. My mentor was the amazing Toronto-based musician Suba Sankaran. Through workshops and a couple intensive weeks of planning, the 11 of us collaborated on a 50 minute show comprised totally of original material in music, drama, dance and composition. I feel so fortunate to have worked with the incredible artists and to have met some truly wonderful people at the Young Center. We artists enjoyed the experience so much, we decided to keep working together and create another show! Very excited for that.
